“This book is an incredible window into the beautiful family that guided Scott and his sisters to be as successful and happy as they are.

I had the privilege to sing Scott down the aisle when he married Mark and officiated their gorgeous union together. I also had the privilege to meet Scott’s whole family and see exactly where his strong sense of love, self-worth, and joy came from.

I felt it right away—it was his mother. You know someone is so loved when they are so good at loving.”

—Christina Perri, singer-songwriter

About the Book

I wrote this book about the early childhood and career of my son, Scott Hoying, Grammy Award-winning co-founder of Pentatonix.

I talk about his life from childhood in Texas, coming out, his rise to fame with Pentatonix, and his married life. I share insights into his early successes and failures and how I tried to nurture a creative environment for my children. I also talk about my journey to becoming an ally.

The book includes a forward by Scott and a QR code for an original song related to his experience coming out. We also have other pictures and videos sprinkled in. :)

What People Are Saying

"This book is for every parent navigating the emotions and challenges of supporting a child who has just come out to them.  It definitely tugs at your heartstrings."

— Bobby Berk, Interior Designer on Queer Eye

"Wow! I really learned about the  experiences and influences that shaped Scott into the person he is today. From his deep-rooted love of music and the challenges he faced along the way."

— Loren Allred, singer-songwriter

"A powerful book. When people first become parents, they often envision a life for their children that ultimately aligns with their own experiences. But as their children grow, they inevitably forge their own paths, ones that may challenge assumptions and invite others to see the world in new ways.

For Scott’s mom, learning that her son is gay was one such invitation- a call to examine her fears, but most of all, her love."

— Colton Haynes, Actor and Model

About Me

I live in Fort Worth, Texas, with my husband and soulmate, Rick. I am a mom, grandmother, retired physical therapist, and now about to be a published author. :)

I may be a bit biased, but I believe I have raised three incredibly successful children whose careers have taken my husband and me around the world.

Over the years, I’ve been asked about how I’ve parented my son Scott to help him develop his musical talents and navigate the challenging entertainment industry. I was inspired to share my experiences in this book.
